From November 11 to 16, KDDI Foundation hosted a delegation from Lao in Japan. The visit was part of a collaborative project launched in 2023 between KDDI Foundation and Lao Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (LTRA) under the Ministry of Technology and Communications, Lao. This project is being implemented with the cooperation of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Japan and aims to empower LTRA to evaluate communication quality and work closely with telecom carriers to improve mobile telecommunications nationwide.
During the visit, in addition to project meetings, the delegation paid a courtesy call on MIC, visited the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) to explore resilient ICT technologies in disasters, and observed KDDI’s initiatives in related fields. As Lao continues to have significant potential for growth in social infrastructure, particularly in telecommunications, the delegation expressed a strong interest in Japan’s cutting-edge technology and expertise. Each visit sparked enthusiastic discussions, with numerous questions and opinions exchanged.
Mr. Soudchay LORLONESY, Director General of LTRA and head of the delegation, commented that the insights from the visit would be shared not only within the project but also across the Lao government, serving as a reference for future policies and systems considerations.
KDDI Foundation will continue to provide support and collaborate with LTRA in the telecom sector to contribute to Lao’s development.
