【Overseas Project Report】 KDDI Foundation hosted Internet Technology Training in Lao

From May 27 to May 29, 2024, KDDI Foundation invited lecturers from APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Information Centre) and aiming at  improving network technology skills, held an Internet Routing Training Course in Vientiane, Lao, for about 30 officials from various departments of the Ministry of Technology and Communications Lao and the Vientiane branch of the Ministry.

The training took place on a routine basis since December 2022 in collaboration with the LTRA (Lao Telecommunications Regulatory Authority) of the Ministry and this was the fourth session of the training. This session was titled “Internet Routing with RPKI,” and focused on “Resource Public Key Infrastructure”. Prior to the training, an opening ceremony was held with the attendance of Director General of LTRA, Soudchay Lorlonsesy, representatives of the KDDI Foundation,  lecturers from APNIC, and all the trainees. Mr. Soudchay Lorlonsesy mentioned aspiringly that he was very interested in RPKI since it was one of the new technologies in Lao, and he was eager to participate in this training course if his schedule permitted.

At the beginning of this training program in December 2022, lectures were given only in English. However, in order to improve the trainees’ understanding, with the cooperation of APNIC, we tried to modify the lectures to be given in a combination of English and Lao. This initiative has been well received by the trainees, who became more active in asking questions and speaking up. On the final day of the training, a closing ceremony was held and KDDI Foundation awarded each trainee by giving a certificate of completion formally issued by APNIC to recognize their efforts.
